Awesome Summer Fun at Gold’s Gym on Hospital Drive in Douglasville!

There have been many fun summer camps at Golds Gym this year! We have had many satisfied kids coming to week-long camps, some coming on days of their choosing. The kids have learned a lot and have had so much fun.  We've captured some of the moments at tennis camp so you can have a feeling of what it's like too! So click the video below; make sure to watch it until the end. If you have any questions you can contact Peter Freeman. If you didn't make it to a tennis camp this summer, there are plenty of options here at Tennis Paradise for the rest of the summer and beyond.

Ian Iverson Put’s Douglasville Tennis On the Map Again

Ian Iverson Wins 10 and Under USTA Tournament

Ian Iverson played in a 10 and under USTA Sanctioned Tennis Tournament and came out on top 6-3 7-5 in the Final. Iverson has been working very hard on his game at Gold's Gym in Douglasville Ga, with Director of Tennis and USTA Georgia Pro of the Year Peter Freeman. Ian has been doing all the right things, taking group lessons, private lessons, working on his fitness, and playing matches.

It all paid off on Sat for him as he won his first USTA tennis tournament. We say first because we know it will not be his last. Ian has a great forehand and backhand and can run like the wind. He is competitive and hard working. Coach Freeman sees a bright future for young Iverson saying,"The sky is the limit for Ian, he is starting at the perfect age, if he keeps working hard he will become a top ranked junior, get a college scholarship, maybe even be a pro one day."

Way to go Ian!!! Gold's Gym wants to thank you for putting tennis on the map again in Douglasville, GA

Ian was able to get up to this level through determination, hard work, and consistency! And LOTS of tennis classes! Check out our lessons and September offers for our classes here: Tennis Paradise September Offer and pick up YOUR game!

Mark is also community-minded and volunteered at the food pantry this summer. His involvement in his church's youth group also keeps him busy.

This coming fall, Mark will be entering the 9th grade and will start being Homeschooled.

Caleb Taff

Article by Rachel and Hannah Page

We caught up with Caleb this week on the Gold's Gym tennis courts during a private lesson.  He learned how to play just last summer at tennis camp and has progressed in his skills ever since.  This week's featured player uses his Tennis Paradise Pass to take group and private lessons...whatever works best for his schedule.  Although Caleb is just 5 years old, his enthusiasm for tennis is a joy to watch.

Sera Superstar

Sera first started taking lessons here at Gold's Gym April of 2011 with Peter Freeman. She says people should take lessons with Pete because 'he's a nice guy and doesn't pressure you.' Sera stays very involved with her tennis. She has played on the Gold's Gym USTA Team Tennis and the Junior Tennis Ladder. Also, she participates in the Big Fish tennis program. She says one of her favorite tennis player is Caroline Wazniacki because 'she has a lot of power in her strokes.

Racquet: Head

Favorite Tennis Stroke: Forehand

Favorite Tennis Player: Caroline Wazniacki

Besides tennis, Sera also enjoys basketball, singing, and swimming. She recently participated with her youth group in the 'Flamingo Attack' that you might have seen in yards around Douglas County! As a church youth group fundraiser, it went on for nearly 2 months! She also sings in the church's Praise Band.

Sera is very smart; she was actually put in the A/B honer roll for 6th grade this year. She sounds like she's accomplished a lot!

She did a little traveling this year. On Friday the 13th, April 2012, she went up to Chicago to see her brother's boot camp graduation ceremony- he is in the Nuclear Engineering for the Navy!

Well Sera, it was nice interviewing you, and have a great summer!

Tennis Across Douglas 100 Kids Come Out

Last week, Gold's Gym Tennis director, Peter Freeman, put on a free tennis camp for three days. We had a great turn-out with nearly one hundred kids coming to learn about this awesome life-long sport. The first day focused on beginning to learn to make contact with the ball in ground strokes and how to volley and serve. Day two began with learning to make follow-through and gave an introduction to cardio tennis. The last day was filled with tennis games, such as 'Around the World' and 'King/Queen of the Court' and ultimately ended with water and relay races and tennis beach volleyball.

It was so great to see many kids interested in tennis!

Junior Spotlight: Ian Iverson

Ian Iverson is such a young yet very determined tennis player on the courts. He has great manners and enthusiasm on the courts and is friendly with all the tennis players! Ian first found tennis interesting while watching some of the U.S. Open a few years ago. When he was six, he had his first tennis lesson right here at Gold's Gym. He began in the younger age group and has now proceeded to the more advanced lessons. He says people should take a lesson with Pete because, “He is a really good coach and teaches seriously.”

Age: 8
Racquet: Wilson (Ian is very pleased to now have a new one!)
Favorite Tennis Stroke: Backhand
Favorite Tennis Players: Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic
Favorite Snack before Tennis: Bananas, strawberries, grapes
Favorite Snack after Tennis: Popsicle

Besides tennis, Ian enjoys playing another sport: basketball. He competed in his third season this winter. He is also in Boy Scouts and has recently crossed from a 'Wolf' to a 'Bear'.

He has many other achievements under his belt. In Boy Scouts he won 1st place for the Yummiest Looking Cake. The cake was chocolate with a peanut-butter frosting. It was Olympic-themed in honor of the Summer Olympics. He and his Dad made Olympic stick figures to put on the cake by melting chocolate and dripping it from spoons onto sheets of wax paper in the shapes of Olympic players. He also won Pinewood Derby Best Design.

Ian enjoys singing as well! At Christmastime he had a solo in the Children's Choir at his Church. He also had the part of 'Ali Herdman' in the musical “Best Christmas Pageant Ever”.
Besides working hard at sports, Boy Scouts, and 2nd grade, Ian traveled with his family to Disney World for some fun. He will be entering 3rd grade with the Veritas school in Douglasville this fall.
Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to let us interview you. May all your endeavors, both academically and on the courts be as positive as you are.
